There’s a battle raging on Instagram about diets.
With lots of people saying they aren’t on a diet, but have a new lifestyle.
But I think 9/10 they’re actually diets.
So in today’s video I’m breaking down how you can know if your new healthy “lifestyle” is actually a diet, and then I’ll also share how you can truly turn it into a lifestyle.

I really liked this message. Hearing about the consistency reminds me I am on my way to having healthy eating/exercise as part of my identity. I’ve been going through the wobbles lately, but sure enough, I have a day or two of wobbles, and I absolutely know I will be right back at it. This message helped me to remember to put down the self beat up and celebrate that I am still moving forward. Thanks Oonah!
Yes! Good there! Thanks for the reminder – who I identify me as. A person who exercise, and like it. 🙂 <3
YES! I love all of this. Oonaugh, I too took notes 🙂
I love the thinking that I know that when I take a day off, I always come home to eating healthy and exercising again because that is who I am. You have taught me this. Thank you!
Absolutely love this! I know I should have known this but it was a little bit of an aha moment for me….thank you!
Oonagh, dear Oonagh. I love your work. I watched the above video because it was short, concise & informative. Made total sense to me.
Not to mention your lounge style ??
I watch & read most of your stuff that comes my way & I’m definitely hooked.
You go girl.
I’m right there.
Great clarification. I am am healthy eater, exerciser and as of yesterday, 1 year alcohol free! I find if I don’t eat well or exercise I don’t feel right. My body lets me know that it is missing the good life.
Really motivating video. But how to follow and what to eat and when to exercise.
Loved this. I think I’m between the diet and lifestyle but getting closer and closer to a lifestyle with the new habits that are in place and that I am working on. The vegan comment really resonated. I am vegetarian and can so relate to the fact that THIS is a lifestyle. Daily walks- lifestyle, resistance training workouts – not yet lifestyle hehe. Healthy choices -lifetstyle, proper portions – still diet mentality.
Thanks for this!
Thank you for this explanation!
I used to be a not so healthy vegetarian with no plan for meals or exercise. Now I have started to incorporate a healthy lifestyle by eating real food instead of caving in to the quick fixes. I exercise on a regular basis and it feels so good! Sure, it takes some time and planning, but it is worth every minute of it!
As a vegan, I totally get this parallel! And also as a vegan, I have to ask myself – if I’m able to stick with being a vegan under any and all circumstances, why can’t I be just as consistent and faithful to working out? Hmmm…. self-reflection time……looking forward to the 28-day challenge!
D@m Oonagh! Saw the topic and was immediately skeptical – I’ve been feeling lately like even your approach was really just a diet using the lifestyle label. But then THIS. For me, a big picture approach like identity is more effective in countering my unconscious, emotionally driven poor health choices than diet rules, which I had allowed your approach to become. I appreciate your contribution on this, and I’m no longer skeptical, lol!
So easy to see the difference when you explain it. In my case, it’s a diet workinig toward a lifestyle!!! Your explanation makes it so clear…no ambiguity when you reach the lifestyle level of commitment.
Great video, Oonagh! Concise and right on the money.
